Abyan suspected al-Qaeda fighters killed two security members and injured other eleven in two separate attacks on early Tuesday, a security source told the Yemen Observer.
The first attack took place in al-Hizam checkpoint of Zinjubar, the capital of Abyan province, in which two al-Qaeda fighters fired at the checkpoint, killed one security member, and injuring other seven.
The security source said al-Qaeda used a new tactic in this attack.” Al-Qaeda fighters were dressed in Central security uniform and they were on foot when they attacked the checkpoint,” the security source said, requesting to remain anonymous.
Following the first attack, another al-Qaeda group ambushed the military vehicle that was carrying the injuries to the hospital, killed the driver, and injured other four soldiers in Ja’ar area.
The Yemen-based al-Qaeda group, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), has attacked several security and military targets, taking Abyan province as one of their launch pad to strike within Abyan province and beyond.
